Delivery:

IHS delivers its medication and other pharmacy supplies by common carrier, either UPS or Federal Express, whichever the facility prefers. IHS does not charge separately for the costs of delivery – the medication prices include the cost of delivery.

Pharmacist Services:

IHS has pharmacists in the pharmacy to take phone calls from 7 a.m. CST until 2 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday. A pharmacist is also physically in the pharmacy Saturday mornings. We always have a pharmacy technician and a pharmacist on call 24-hours a day, and 7 days a week.

Formulary Management:

IHS pharmacists have developed a formulary that we offer to any of our facilities who wish to adopt one. Additionally, we are happy to work with and provide input to any of our facilities or customers who are developing their own formulary.

Stat Prescriptions:

In order to accommodate situations in which an inmate needs medication before it can or does arrive from IHS, IHS establishes a relationship with a local pharmacy of the facility’s choice. When the facility needs a medication immediately, IHS will work with this local pharmacy to fill the medication for the facility to pick up.

Reports:

IHS provides medication utilization reports for its facilities. IHS can customize the reports to show virtually any medication usage statistics the facility wants and needs according to whatever schedule is requested.

Medication Administration Records (MARs):

At no additional cost to its facilities, IHS provides paper, preprinted MARs. We have a standard 5 or 6 different styles of paper MARs from which our facilities choose. If a facility is interested in an electronic MAR, IHS can provide electronic MARs through a partnership with an eMar vendor.

Training:

IHS provides initial on-site training in its pharmacy system and also continued training on general pharmacy issues if requested.

Ancillary Services:

IHS has toll free telephone and fax numbers for use by its facilities. IHS provides fax machines to facilities that need them. IHS provides medication carts that suit the needs of its facilities, both in quantity and in type. In addition to standard medication carts, IHS offers carts and shelving specially fabricated for storage of medication in its AutoMed compliance packaging. As a service to its facilities, IHS pays for unused medication to be returned to the pharmacy for destruction at the pharmacy.

Billing & Payment:

IHS provides monthly statements by U.S. mail or e-mail.

ihsConnect (Remote Order Entry):

As a FREE service, IHS Pharmacy offers its facilities the ability to place orders remotely for medication and supplies. The IHS remote ordering system (ihsConnect) also allows the facility to print its own MARs on site and print a MAR label when there are medication changes and additions; run end-of-day reports and batch reports; review a previous patient’s prescription history; and check a patient’s allergy and duplicate therapy warnings. If the facility wishes, ihsConnect can be interfaced with the facility’s offender/jail management system. This interface allows electronic communication between the offender/jail management system so that medication orders and administration records are updated automatically and in “real time” with inmate releases and even inmate movement within the facility.
